UBC Apple Festival

There is no better way to embrace fall than by tromping through crackling leaves surrounded by the sweet aroma of apples.  This weekend UBC is holding its annual apple festival in the beautiful botanical gardens.  The event runs October 16-17 from 11am-4pm both days.  This is an all ages event and most certainly family friendly.  This is their 20th anniversary and the weather is supposed to be quite lovely this weekend.

Every year 25,000-30,000 pounds of apples are hauled away by hungry Vancouverites, as well as apple trees, dried apples and delicious apple juice.  It is $2 to get in to the event, children under 12 are free.  If you are feeling hungry, for $3 you can get in on the apple tasting with over 60 varieties to try both new and heritage.  There is also apple pie and apple cider.

It is a fun way to spend a fall afternoon but if crowds are not your thing you may want to think twice as this is a very well attended event every year.

The apple festival is a great way to try new varieties and stock up on apples for all of your favourite fall dishes.  For more information go here.

Happy foraging!
