A Spring Day in the Kitchen with Julie

Spring is upon us. The light is shifting, the air smells of blossoms and thankfully the days are getting longer. What better way to spend the first day of Spring than in the kitchen with a friend with the patio doors flung open and the sun streaming in.

Julie has the kitchen of my dreams. I mean look at it? The light, the collection of beautiful dishes and the ever present fresh bread and baked goods. Magic!

The other thing I love about her kitchen is that it is well loved. It is here that Julie offers cooking classes, cooks meals for her family, and where friends gather to share food and conversation. There always seems to be a little hustle and bustle. People coming and going. It is where everyone gathers. The heart of the home.

This day was no different. Family was coming and going. Mabel the family dog kept coming by in hopes something had fallen to the floor and Julie was busy about the kitchen preparing delicious food.

Julie and I set the day aside to cook and photograph. Julie offered to cook a few dishes she had been wanting to try and I got to eat and take photos. Yes please!

She made a rustic galette of roasted squash and caramelized onions, a chicken, kale and chickpea soup with rosemary croutons and this pasta dish with mackerel, preserved lemon, fennel seeds and capers. Delish.

We drank tea and chatted. I wandered, capturing different corners of the kitchen.

It was an inspiring way to kick off Spring and get me excited about the coming season and all the beautiful food to be eaten, shared and captured on camera.

Thanks Julie for a fun day and for sharing your kitchen with me.

I am so in love with every single image here. What a gift to see how you have captured my very favourite place in the world and what a great reminder of such a lovely day spent together. Let’s plan another date soon. Mussels with some really good bread, french butter and a glass of wine? xo J
